Job summary
The Health and Safety Coordinator ensures a good level of communication and coordination between the ArcelorMittal Group safety teams and the regional ArcelorMittal Projects units. This role actively supports the business in creating and maintaining a safe work environment across an international group of companies. The Health and Safety coordinator reports relevant safety KPI’s to the BD CEO and management committee and provides proactive support to the operational teams regarding safety matters.
This role is responsible for training and coaching to promote a culture of safety, raise risk awareness, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reinforce adherence to corporate health and safety guidelines. Regular site visits to operational locations worldwide are required.
Background & skills
- Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering, occupational health and safety, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety role, preferably within an international environment
- Ability to collaborate with individuals from various cultural backgrounds
- Competence to provide global transversal coordination and support without managerial empowerment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills for engaging with all organizational levels
- Proficient written communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving and active listening skills
- Attention to detail
- Capability to encourage behavioural change
- Strong facilitator with experience of delivering H&S training sessions and coaching
- Experience of working as part of a diverse and remote team
- Knowledge of safety, behavioural psychology, operational risks, and lean manufacturing
- Willingness to travel
- Fluency in English. Any additional language will be considerate as a plus (specifically, Dutch, Hindi, Mandarin, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish)
Position location: United Arab Emirates (Sharjah), optional Netherlands (Heijningen)
What you’ll be doing
- Manage, lead & drive risk awareness/assessment, health & safety operational excellence and behavioural changes across ArcelorMittal Projects, focusing on leadership and culture
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions for employees to ensure familiarity with safety protocols and procedures
- Conduct investigations of workplace accidents to determine causes and develop preventive measures
- Monitor compliance with safety policies and guidelines through regular review of workplace practices
- Carry out risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
- Actively engage with ArcelorMittal Projects sites through regular meetings, visits, field observations, audits, inspections, reporting analysis, and improvement planning
- Ensure sharing all relevant benchmarks and REXs with the ArcelorMittal Projects Health and Safety community and management, when appropriate
